Bromyard Jazz Festival 2011
Midlands music legend Alan Buckley – known throughout the business as ‘Sir’ Alan Drums has unveiled an exciting new festival to be held over three days in August 2011.
This Veteran jazz drummer and musical events organiser has been the driving force behind the organisation of some of our best loved Jazz festivals. He has already clocked up more than 42 festivals throughout central England, including 26 at Upton-upon-Severn.
Following his success as the main organiser of both Malvern and Upton festivals ‘Sir’ Alanwas asked by Mike Cresswell to set the sights on the historic Herefordshire town of Bromyard as his next prestige venue. He intends to host three-day homage to jazz and other types of music in August 2011.
Anyone who knows ‘Sir’ Alan knows that he has an aversion to doing anything by halves! Therefore, not only will there be music at various venues in the Falcon Hotel complex, but also a street parade and a festival church service.
Bromyard resident and fellow music fan Mike Cresswell has followed the progress of ‘Sir’ Alan and his festivals for years. Mike thought that Bromyard deserved their own festival and asked ‘Sir’ Alan if he could organise one in the town. Of course, in typical fashion, Alan was on board with all the enthusiasm needed to launch a brand new venue!
Together the two went to take a look around Bromyard in order to find the perfect venue. They finally settled on the Falcon Hotel – this appeared to be an ideal place to consolidate a programme of events. They have had total co-operation from Owners John and Sylvia Silver, who are very enthusiastic about the whole project.
It was decided that a launch on Friday November 12th 2010 would be a good idea and invitations have gone out to local dignitaries, jazz club organisers and a host of people who have backed ‘Sir’ Alan’s ventures in the past.
The Bromyard Jazz Carnival of Jazz is to be held from August 17-19 2012 and will see a wide variety of bands playing a broad spectrum of music ranging from the classic styles of Barbara and All That Jazz to the madcap mayhem of Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band.
The festival will begin at noon on the Friday, continuing through Saturday and ending at 6pm on the Sunday.
A New Orleans-style marching parade will start off through the town at 11.30am on the Saturday and a service will be held on Sunday morning at St Peter’s Church, Bromyard. Numerous sessions will be held at the Falcon Hotel throughout the festival and a marquee will also host a number of bands including ‘Sir’ Alan’s Hot Groovers.
Due to the success of the Bromyard Carnival of Jazz the 2nd will be held on 17/18/19 August 2012 follow on for details.
Accommodation can be provided by hotels and pubs in the area and there will also be camping facilities.
Alan believes that this will be a great way of announcing next year’s festival and he is working hand-in-hand with Mike Cresswell and Sylvia and John to get it up and running and they are all very enthusiastic.
‘Sir’ Alan is very proud of his previous track record of organising festivals and he has high hopes for this latest project. He has had successful connections with Upton, Malvern and others throughout the Midlands, including at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham, and many other venues.

The founder of Upton Jazz Festival is pleased to announce that Festival number 27 will be held on June 22/23/24 2012 - Down by the Riverside at Upton-on-Severn.
Midlands music legend Alan Buckley – known throughout the business as ‘Sir’ Alan Drums created the concept of the Upton Jazz Festival way back in 1985. The first festival was actually held the following year in 1986 and proved to be the Blueprint for future Festivals throughout the Jazz and music world.
Since then the festival has gone from strength to strength and, although the event is now hugely popular, the original organiser and founder is still, very much, the driving force behind the event. Indeed, it is a testament to ‘Sir’ Alan’s influence throughout the industry that so many bands and artists attend!
